Convert images in your browser

Turn iPhone photos, images saved from websites and oversized PNGs into JPGs or PNGs that anything can open. The conversion runs on your own device, so nothing is uploaded.

JPG, PNG or WEBP?

Choose JPG for photos: it keeps them small enough to email, upload or share, and every device opens it. Choose PNG for logos, screenshots, images with a transparent background, and anything you will edit again. PNG loses no detail when it is saved, but a photo as a PNG is several times the size of the same photo as a JPG.

Choose WEBP for images going on a website: it is usually smaller than a JPG of the same quality and keeps transparency. Chrome, Edge and Firefox write WEBP here; a browser that cannot says so next to the file.

How this converter works

Your browser reads each image from your disk and draws it into the format you choose. Current browsers open WEBP and AVIF themselves, and Safari opens HEIC; other browsers first load an open-source HEIC decoder (libheif, compiled to WebAssembly) from this site. No image is sent to a server.

The copy contains the picture and nothing else. The camera model, the capture time and the GPS location stay in the original, which is useful when you are about to share the copy. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas come out white; PNG keeps them.

FAQ

Are my images uploaded?

No. The page converts them inside your browser. Nothing about the images, not even their names, is sent anywhere.

The site does count page views with Google Analytics, which is never given your files or anything you type. Privacy has the details.

Which formats can I convert?

HEIC and HEIF from iPhones and iPads, WEBP, AVIF, PNG, JPG and GIF. Each becomes a JPG or a PNG, whichever you choose. An animated WEBP or GIF converts as its first frame.

Why is the converted file bigger than the original?

HEIC, WEBP and AVIF compress far better than JPEG, so the same picture usually needs more space as a JPG, and much more as a PNG. A lower JPG quality brings the size down, and the image compressor aims for a size you choose.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Choose or drop as many as you like and each gets its own download link. Download all saves every one; your browser may ask once whether the page can download several files. Very large batches are limited by your device's memory.

Converting images on a Mac?
